I would really like to know what brand of nylon string you think are good for the sopraan and concert ukulele.
There are only a few brands to buy in my country so, before I order strings in your country I need some information.
I can buy D\'Addario and Boston strings in Holland  .
Greetings from Dick
I bought D\'addario black uke strings and I hated them. \"De gustibus non est disputandum\" (you can\'t argue about taste). They go for $4.95 at the local music store here.
Seasons Greetings!

Have a look at: http://www.thomann.de/nl/ukelelen_snaren.html (http://www.thomann.de/nl/ukelelen_snaren.html)
Most players here prefer the Aquila Nylgut oder Martin Flourocarbon-Strings für Concert and Soprano-Size.
Beware of the GHS-Strings, i really don\'t like them.

100% agreed. I hate GHS strings. Martin Flourocarbon are my favs but I only use the original Pyramid strings on my Brükos and Martin on all the others.

Agreed... no GHS at all. I prefer Aquila and Worth, which are very similar to the Martins.
Thank you for the response but my question was only for nylon strings. I have a lot expierence with Worth, Aquila, Risa and Fremont strings but I don\'t know much about the different kinds of nylon strings.
Are there peolple who have an opinion about Ko\'olau-Ukulele-Strings, Pyramid, Romana, D\'daddario or other nylon strings ?
Thanks for the Thomann link !
Recently I was playing a Flea soprano stringed with the nylons she came with, I believe Hilo Black Nylon. The uke sounded great and I wouldn\'t change the strings if it was mine.
On my tenor Fluke the very same strings sounded dreadful and I replaced them.

I bought Ko\'olau gold nylon strings before. They aren\'t bad, but they only sound good on some ukuleles.

hi doc! :)
i liked the a\'addarios, but only the pro arte ukulele strings (http://www.thomann.de/de/daddario_j92_concert_ukulele_strings.htm), not the black ones. the koolau gold nylon strings are also fine... and also the new koolau mahana nylons. the koolau nylons you can buy at mgm\'s ebay shop (http://stores.ebay.de/Musicguymics-Room/Strings-/_i.html?_fsub=10248&_sid=34517586&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322) and if the the delivery is under 20 euros you don\'t have to pay any tax, or vat. i never tried the new koolau mahana but some informations you\'ll find here (http://www.koolauukulele.com/newstrings.html). maybe also the hilo strings are worth a try... i have them but i never tried them
greetings
I found Galli strings very interesting. They are not exceptionally loud and don\'t have very much sustain -- they\'re relatively thin for nylon strings. However they sound very nice and intonate really well. And they\'re really cheap
I like the D`Addario J65 strings (http://www.thomann.de/de/daddario_j65_ukulele.htm). I got them on my Flea. They work very well. The Ko´olau gold are OK, too.
The nylon strings I did not like were: Romana (http://www.thomann.de/de/romana_ukulelensaiten.htm), the clear GHS (perhaps the black ones are a bit better) and some clear Martin.
Hello Jan: thank you for your respons
Hello Spotdrossel:\" I bought Ko\'olau gold nylon strings before. They aren\'t bad, but they only sound good on some ukuleles\". ON wich Ukes they sounded good ?
Hello losguidos: What is for you the difference between the black and the clear D\'Addario strings ?
Hello Wellti: I once bought the Galli strings but they were not my cup of tea.
Hello Caruso: Thank you and hope to see you in Winterswijk !

On a Lanikai LFM-Soprano and a Pono soprano. They\'re good to use when no other strings seem to work. A last try before ditching the uke!

Zitat von: doctor dickHello losguidos: What is for you the difference between the black and the clear D\'Addario strings ?
I never tried the black ones for uke, but other people told me that they aren\'t reccomendable. The pro-arte strings sounded good on my Koaloha. The sound is softer than with carbon strings with less overtones, but still brighter than aquilas. Like everything it\'s a matter of taste and depends also on the playing style, or uke you use.
I\'ve tried a lot of guitar strings (wich you can buy also as single strings), like hannabach, pirastro, savarez, d\'addario ect... and some of them i really like. Also as low-g strings i mostly use a guitar d-string... my favorites for low-g are these two:

Hello Spotdrossel: thank you
Hello losguidos:Thank you for the information. I\'m first gonna try the D addario J92 or J65 because I can buy them in a normal musicshop. I know the sound is softer and \"shorter\" than with fluocarbon. But I really like the thicker strings, the lower tension and I hope it sounds more like the \"old\" ukulelesound.
\"Plong plong plong\"!
I want to put them on my Kala Spruce-Maple Concert because I think that the Aquila strings has to little tone and when I put Worth clear or brown strings on it, it sounds to gently, like a harp.
What do you think about that ?
Yes, I think both would be ok... I personally would prefer the J92\'s but probably the differnece is minimal.
greetings
I once tried the D\'ADDARIO J53 and found then utterly disappointing.
Sloppy feeling and unsatisfying sound...
- but they looked great.
I have experiences with the pyramid strings. If you want to have the \"plong plong plong\" - sound, you can try it with them. For my taste they were too unflexible and I didn´t really liked the sound. If I compare them with Aquilas, they sound muted and a little like plastic and they are thicker than Aquilas.
If you want \"the old ukulele sound\", why don\'t you try genuine gut strings? ;) ... I tried them once, and I think they\'re not bad. If I wanted to get an old fashioned uke sound I\'d go for them.

I think you really should try the Ko\'olau strings. It\'s gut strings with tone. The colour is similar (but more yellow) and they also feel rough and make a hissing sound when you glide over them. They sound more percussive than other nylons. In many respect they even seem closer to guts than Aquillas do, but when fingered in the upper positions, they do have more tone than gut or nylgut strings.
I currently have a blend of Ko\'olau and brown Worth strings on my 1920\'s Martin. I use the Ko\'olau outer strings, the inner ones are fluorocarbons. The lower inner strings of the Ko\'olaus or other nylons often sound a bit mouldy to me and the overall sound seems more lively in this mix. It provides me with the gentleness of the browns when playing fingerstyle. When strumming, the outer strings rule the overall impression. It just looks a little bit funny that the outer strings are thick and light, the inner ones thin and dark. I also tried the Martin fluorcarbs - looked better, but tonally this trick did not work as well with them.
Kind regards,
Ole
Thank you all for the usefull tips !
